"I have several tents, but two of these.

This is a great tent - You can sleep two, but I consider this a very roomy solo tent. I've had two in it, but it's tight. It is simple to put up and pack; I have never gotten wet, it has withstood 40-50 winds; I have used it in downpours - even in winter. Great for the Smokeys. "

"I have too many tents - but I only have 2 of the same - this tent - here's why.

I use this tent as a solo tent. It's a pound heavier than the lightyear (great tent), but I like the extra space and stability.

This tent only weighs 4 1/2 pounds. I agree with the reviewers that calling this a 2 man tent is pushing it - but I have done it.

Here is what I like: Easy to set up; great in 3 seasons, actually used it in dead winter on Mount Sterling in 0 degrees and 30 mph winds - no problem; Very easy to take down and pack; small footprint:

Here are negatives (not really negatives for most, but you should consider: This is not a freestanding tent - it must be staked down. If you are camping on solid rock or in shallow soil just above rock - consider a freestanding tent; Don't expect to stand up; that's not what this tent is for

All in all an excellent all around tent, and a great tent for one that allows plenty of internal storage. At $129 with free shipping at Campmor, you won't beat this one"

"I just purchased my Flashlight about a month ago and have used on three separate occasions. The first was during a autumn rainstorm on the California Coast. It was pouring cats and dogs but my girlfriend and I stayed dry as ticks in a haystack. At about 3am I woke up feeling as though I was lying on a waterbed. We were in a puddle at least three inches full of water. Still dry as those two ticks. I did however get up to move the tent (paranoia) and just unstaked it and dragged it and all the gear to higher ground. Still dry inside. I am digging this piece of equipment. I would have bought it even if it wasn't on sale."

"i bought a used 2 man clip flashlight(96' model), and have used it for over 1200 miles. it's roomy, light, and very easy to set up. Just make sure you have a footprint,or groundcloth. in my expierience i've seen nothing better in the price range."

"bought a clip flashlight after much researching.i got a great buy and figured "oh well, you get what you pay for." well,i took a 5 day backpack into the pisgah national forest in september 2001...yes, i was in the woods when it all happened...and camped in sub 40 degree weather at 5000 ft on a bald in a torrential downpour.rained all night and into the wee hours of the morning.winds were gusting to 35.
the clip flashlight gave me more than my money's worth and kept me warm and as dry as a bone with not even a drop of water entering the tent.the vestibule was sufficient for cooking and stowing shoes and light gear even in bad weather.great for one person.will fit two but all the gear would be tough.
sets up quick and packs away just as fast.if you find a good buy...snag one!!"

"I have used my Sierra Designs Clip Flashlight CD three times. It is very roomy for one person and gear and my little Jack Russell Terrier but two people and gear and dog, it is cramped. I have been in two thunderstorms while on the Manistee River in Michigan and was dry as ever. The only part of the tent that got wet was the rainfly. The tent itself was not wet. Suggest buying the footprint for it. It weighs just over 3 lbs packed and was VERY affordable. It is very easy to clean...just turn it inside out. I LOVE IT!"

"I have the 1999 model. I have used it extensively on the Applachian Trail. It's lighter than most tents, has good rain fly coverage and a smallish vestible. I think of it as a 1+ person tent. You can get 2 people in it, but they better be very good friends ;)
Set up is easy enough to be accomplished without reference to the directions. Folds up to a very compact package for an easy carry. When I go out with the wife we split it up, I give her the fly and carry the rest myself. That yields a very low weight solution for 2 people.
The only complaint is that my older model did not have factory taped seams, but I see that has been corrected on the 2002 and 2003 models.
I had to replace a shock cord (never lend a good tent to a fool). Sierra Designs sent a replacement cord with just a phone call If you want a quality small, lightweight tent this is a good choice. I have seen the 2002 and 2003 model for $139 and $169 respectively on campmor.com and they are bargains at that price."

"I bought mine in 97 or 98. Great tent. Packs light. Generally sleep two 6ft. guys and one 60lb. dog in it. Have had 2 guys and two dogs in it once (there's a lot more room at your feet then you might think). Had some holes in the screen which Sierra Designs fixed for a price. Great buy for the price, weight and size."

"I bought this tent about 2 years ago, and I have used it probably 30 times, in all sorts of conditions. when using it on the AT I slept in it with my friend and my dog, with our gear in the vestibule, on a windy 4o degree night with about five inches of rain, and no part of the inside of the tent got wet, and our gear stayed relatively dry. If you Need a new tent, I Definitely suggest you choose this one."

"this tent past the test...though enough room, it does get a little small when stuck in a three day down pour in Dusy Basin...stayed dry and warm...at 3:00am a windstorm hit like a frieght train...after a few moments of anticipation...all stakes where holding...fell back to sleep...in my opinion...best solo tent on the market"

"I Purchased this tent in 2001, took it 10 days solo in Yellowstone and repeated it in Yosemite the next year, and despite getting 8" of snow on it in Yellowstone, and rained on like crazy in Yosemite, wouldnt trade it for one twice the size. No leaks, no hassles setting it up, and best of all, very very light weight. For a great tent on an lightweight budget, get this one."

"This is a good tent--especially if you're going solo or bringing your dog along. I have slept two adults in it, and it does feel cramped, but it is manageable if you're not stuck in a 2-day rainstorm. I got my Clip Flash on sale at REI in Portland, Oregon in 2001 and I have not regretted the purchase."

"I got my Clip Flashlight in 1995 and took it to Brazil, Mt. Shasta, outdoor festivals, and all kinds of other places. It's held up great all this time! A little cramped for two people, but great for one, lightweight, and it's just a fantastic tent!

My main complaint is that it's not freestanding, so you're at the mercy of whatever stakehold the ground will let you have, and you can't always count on that! Also, it's not the best ventilation design, but I still give it a 5."

"I've had mine since the late 80's and its seen 2-3 Yosemite thunderstorms and even a mid July snowstorm. Best tent ever. Never leaked and still works like it did the day I bought it. The only downside is the ventilation. I might buy another when this one wears out."

"Postive: Light and compact, easy to pack and carry. Really easy to set-up and solid once in place. Really great tent with only one really drawback for a big guy like me (6ft 1 inch and 300 lbs).
Negative: The interior height drops quickly inside the tent and I find it too tight inside, especially if I was to spend any amount of time inside, other than for sleeping."

"I thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail with this tent, then lived in it for the next 3 months while working on a trail crew in Maine. It has seen high winds, snow, persistent heavy rain and everything in between. Literally not a scratch on it after all that time. Truly an exceptional product. Weighing in at over 4 pounds, I wouldn't reccomend it for solo backpackers, but then again, it's not made for that in the first place. For "traditional" backpacking (i.e. not ultralight, long distance or 4 season) this tent will be the last one you'll ever buy. Can't reccomend it highly enough."
