"I've been quite happy with these pants - after I special-ordered the pair of suspenders that are an option for them. The pants have pre-sewn velcro attachment points for these special suspenders, and I would say that MH should just provide the suspenders with the pants in the package. They don't, so I had to find a way to special order them. Suspenders may not be necessary for everyone, but I really like them. I was psyched that MH provided the option for suspenders with these pants; but I was upset that I had to jump through hoops to get them.
Quibbles aside, the pants are quite nice. They keep me comfortably warm even on days below zero with just the lightest wicking capilene underneath. Very well constructed from PolarTec Windstopper fabric with cordura reinforcements at the seat and knees. Full-length side zippers are provided. Two front pockets are there to warm your hands.
Although I've never been much of a fan of gore windstopper fabric for my other garments (I always feel a bit clammy in them, and they can be a bit loud and crinkly feeling), I've come to love these pants. I wear them a lot! If you aren't familiar with Gore WindStopper fabric, it is a sandwitch of fleece fabrics with a windproof barrier grafted into it. This eliminates one of the main problems with fleece - the fact that if it has no wind resistance at all. The downside is that it is stiffer and less breathable. And, more expensive.
They are not waterproof; so they won't be much help in a full-on rain storm. But they shed snow, mist and light rain well; they are warm, windproof and provide decent breathability for high-exertion winter hiking and climbing. If the weather gets truly awful, you can layer goretex pants or bibs right over these.
The fit is excellent on me. I have an average to short inseam for my waist size. If you have a long inseam length for your waist size, these may be too short for you. The pants are trim (but not tight...) fitting around my ankles. The waist has a nylon web belt sewn in to allow you to get the fit just right. As mentioned above, I prefer to use suspenders. I leave the web belt comfortably loose and let the suspenders hold the pants up. That's just me though...
They have also proven to be very durable. I've worn them frequently for weekend-long trips in the mountains over the last 3 years and they show very little signs of wear. They've held up to long bush-whacking sessions and being scraped over ice and rock.
Highly recommended."
