"I use these boots (men's size 13) for long, ambitious dayhikes and light backpacking (20-30 pounds of gear) on-trail(80%) and off-trail(20%) in the Sierra Nevada mountains. Here are my remarks:
This is the same boot as the Torre GTX except it has a leather/cordura nylon upper instead of an all-leather upper so it's a little lighter and a little cheaper too ($135 vs. $150). It also has GoreTex linings like the Torre for waterproofing. The Traverse has good ankle support and breaks in rather easily thanks to the leather/fabric uppers. The Vibram soles do well on rough terrain and the overall quality of construction seems very good (even though they're made in China, not Italy). I haven't yet tested the waterproofness since they've only had quick dunkings in shallow streams but I plan to use them snowshoeing to really try them out for that (with application of Nikwax beforehand). Some people complain that Montrail's IntegraFit design isn't comfortable for them (especially the "heel lock" aspect) but it fits my feet just fine. As with any pair of boots you should try on more than one size. However, if you have wide feet you should opt for the Torre instead since the Traverse is only made in a medium width.
Final note: I would not recommend the Traverse (or the Torre for that matter) for mountaineering, extended backpacking or for carrying heavy loads, but they are more than adequate for almost everything else- assuming of course that you can get a good fit with them."
