"Very good fit out of the box. But, that's about it. Just one day hike after a rain, and feet were soaked. Also, when they dried, they shrank and no longer fit. If you want to look good in the streets, these might be for you, but if you plan on any rugged walking, pass."

"Too bad for the other reviewer; must be bad karma. I'm tipping the scale at about 210, my pack is typically around 30-35 lbs, frequently 45, and I put well over two hundred miles--hard rocky dusty wet sweaty thrashing miles--on mine this last spring and summer.
These are THE ONLY shoes I've ever owned that have a large enough toe box without going to a size 15. I've done everything from bouldering to trail running to unplannded 10 mile slogs--yes, slogs--in crusty ankle deep fluff!Sorry, reviewer, the only moisture that managed to get past the Gore-Tex was due to the two inch long gash in the toe rubber from kicking a piece of sheet metal at work the day before; and even that moisture was barely noticable. Seriously, I can't say enough about these shoes, and now that I've ripped 'em I'm going to order two more pairs. Seriously. That's how good they've performed. They are pretty ragged, I'll admit that much, but that's only because I'm very hard on them, using them as full-on heavy duty hikers (forget the five pound leather ankle weights--never again) If I could afford it I'd buy a wheelbarrow full of 'em."

"I destroyed my old pair of boots one week before a 50 mile backpacking trip in Yosemite. I bought my Merrell's and I put only 5 miles on them before the trip. The were tremendous. I have rarely had wet feet in these boots. The are very comfortable and fit great. I just bought a second set to keep for when I wear these ones out. I would recommend them and I have had two friends purchase the same shoe with the same luck."

"I think these are the Merrell's that I own - Merrell Reflex MID Gore-Tex Smoke is what the label says. I was very, very pleased with them at first. Bought them about 3 years ago and spent about 6 months breaking them in. I paid a lot for them and only use them a few times each year and was extremely disappointed to notice recently that they're already starting to split open along the toe seams. I contacted Merrell but they only cited the one-year warranty so now I'm looking for something to replace them."
