"These are fairly light hiking boots made by Merrel for MEC. They are made of 2 mm nubuck leather (but not one-piece) and have some very small nylon pieces for ventilation. They are incredibly comfortable; I have never had blisters from wearing them, nor have my feet ever been hot. I took them on a 5-day backpacking trip in the Rocky Mountains and had no problems.
However for heavy backpacking or mountain scrambling I would probably recommend heavier boots. These won't really give you any problems, but heavier boots would probably be better. Of course, these only cost $110 Cdn, so they were worth it. They are quite water-resistant, but definitely not water-proof.
One note: the quality control did not seem the best, as one of the speed hooks snapped off once. Another time, when the boots were very wet, one of the lace grommets popped out. Of course, since I bought them at MEC, I just took them back and had them repaired for free (didn't even have to show my receipt!), so neither thing really bothered me."
