"had them for six months now. No problems at all would recomend sole inserts when not whereing heavy socks.climbed mt. washington with them last sat.Everybody else was wherein plastic with step in crampons, gettin snow build underneath boots like you wouldn't believe .the flexability of my boots with my stap on crampons prevented this. very pleased !! :)"

"I bought a pair of these a couple of years ago. On the first backpacking trip I wore them on (5 days in the Wind Rivers), they started coming apart early on the fourth day, with the soles de-laminating. Not sure what to think of this, as I have owned other Merrell boots that performed well for years. Although this is a negative review, I do not really want to downrate the boots because I do not expect the problem I had to be a common one. And, for what it's worth, the fit was great and the boots were comfortable right out of the box, and easy to break in. If you choose to buy them, I expect you will have better luck than I did, but be aware of anything that looks like a quality-of-build issue."

"Merrell Grand Traverse II
Don't Buy them. These boots came apart at the toe with only one NorthEast winter. The leather on the toe also started to look like cheap plastic. Sent them back to the store for new ones and they no longer care them because of several similar instances."

"I own several other Merrell shoes, so I didn't hesitate buying the Grand Traverse model. These are the most comfortable stiff support hiking boots I've ever owned. They felt like they'd already been broken in, brand new and right out of the box. Haven't subjected them to mountaineering conditions, so I can't base my review on that experience. I've been hiking for over a year on well-groomed trails in No. California. I have bunions on both feet and corns on my littlest toes from past ill-fitting shoes. These Merrells have never caused any hint of discomfort. I think the gel in the lining makes a huge difference. Sorry to hear about the lack of durability. Hope the company makes a longer lasting boot with the same gel design."
