"After extensive research for a 4-season, 3-man tent that was light enough to pack by myself (I camp with kids/dog), I found the Chinook Cyclone on-line for less than $200.00. It's first test was fairly extreame, and it performed very well. We overnighted in an Ohio State Park the first weekend in December. While setting up the tent, the wind was blowing hard enough to pick it up and turn it over before I could get it staked. Once set up, it didn't move again; in fact, there wasn't even flapping of the fly anywhere. That night, the temp. dropped to the low teens, but we were fine inside with the doors closed. I woke in the middle of the night to the sound of rain; I knew immediately that we were in an ice storm. Sure enough, I got out and found it pouring, with the rain immediately freezing on everything. The tent was completely coated in ice about 1/8-1/6 inch thick. Yet, it didn't flex at all under the weight; even the vestibule. I brushed off much of the ice and went back to sleep. We awoke to yet another 1/8-1/6 inch on the tent, but it was none the worse for wear. I broke it off and away we went with no problems. Sleeps me, my son and our collie comfortably. Also, almost no condensation inside.
Pros: Very sturdy in wind/rain/ice loads; easy to set up; roomy; good space/weight ratio/very reasonable price; good ventilation, even in winter.
Cons: Seems heavier than the advertised weight of 7 pounds 3 oz. (but I haven't weighed it); front vestibule needs to be staked out."
