Trip Info
DescriptionThe Plan: North South – Laurelly Branch – Middle Fork – North Fork – North-South - Lick Branch Trail numbers: 688 – 267 – 271 – 272 - 688 - 212 Starts at: Highland Scenic Highway at North-South Trailhead Length of loop: 17 miles with lots of side trail options for a longer trip Friday: Park at Trailhead hike to where North South trail 688 crosses the Little fork. Camp here. This makes it easy for those arriving late on Friday to make it to camp. It also gives opportunity for others to explore the area if they arrive early. Saturday: Hike to trail 267 to 271 and camp where the three Forks meet. This is also where several trails meet making it easy for those who want higher mileage to setup camp and get a better look at the backcountry. Sunday: Hike down the Little fork Trail and down the Lick Branch trail, then up the road to the cars. After hiking out do lunch in Hillsboro. Cranberry Map Update June 17, 2006: Okay, I've looked at all the trails in Dolly Sods...there aren't really any we could do without overlapping trails we've already done. I've talked to some people about Otter Creek and Cranberry Wilderness and Cranberry seems to be the better choice. I'm looking and talking to people about a trail, I believe Fridge is an expert in the area. Here is a map of the area: Cranberry Map The plan will go as follows: Friday 23: Arrive at trailhead at various times during the day hike to camp Saturday 24: Hike, go to next camp. Sunday 25: Short hike out, lunch, head home. Now all I gotta do is fill in the trail info. This will be a LOW MILEAGE trip. I'm still having problems with my leg I broke back in Jan so I won't be able to do any 15 mile days. I'm gonna try to keep each day to 8 miles and under. Probaby 6 on Fri, 8 on Sat 4-5 on Sun. ____________________________________________ This will be our third annual trip to a West Virginia Wilderness area. The first two trips being Sodsfest 2004 and Sodsfest 2K5: Dolly Sods Reloaded. In 2006 we will either revisit Dolly Sods and hike the Red Creek Trail or go to another WV Wilderness area such as Cranberry Glades Botanical Area. The trip will most likely take place the weekend before 4th of July Weekend just like the previous two trips. More this coming year.
