"Awesome place. This part of the trail is stunning--There was about 4 inches of snow on 11-24-05. Georgia has amazing diversity on the trail."

"Excellent shelter, with a loft. Two different bear cable locations, with plenty of tent sites. Also two privies in the area.
Water source is decent, it gets pretty low without plenty rain.
watch out for the black bear, they are in this area."

"Pretty nice shelter but watch out for bears. Lots of problems in May/04"

"Great shelter with plenty of space to move around. Bear cables are very convenient, however mice were able to climb the cable and get into food bag. Not much in the way of wood for a fire, but a nice fire pit. Nice place to stay and relax the feet for the night!"

"A nice shelter and surroundings, but water source nearby was not very abundant with low rainfall recently. Apparently Georgia is installing bear cables at all its shelters, a very nice addition - protection for both the hikers AND the bears. The Georgia ATC has posted a message between here and the nearby Springer summit saying they don't recommend staying at the shelter because of extensive bear activity here recently. Ants were abundant when I stopped here at lunchtime, but I was told by other hikers that the ants were mostly dead (sprayed?) later in the day."

"Gizmo, the ridgerunner, noted that there are 40+ people camped in and around the shelter on an April weekend. Many of these will be aspiring thru-hikers, but there seemed to be a lot of weekenders out also in April 2004. Nice shelter design with second story bunk and pegs. Picnic table but no covered cooking area. Bear cables and substantial tenting. Spring water available a few hundred feet in front of shelter."
