Shelter Information
User Comments
Zeno, 06/11/05 "The views are spectacular from the rocks around this shelter, and the water source is really good. There was a whole lot of trash around the shelter and surrounding area. "
Kerosene, 04/27/04 "Stopped by for an early lunch from Blue Mountain in early April. Your basic shelter with a nice boxed-in spring another several hundred yards down and to the right of the shelter. A lot of good tent sites just before the shelter."
dhisrael, 04/23/05 "Great vista. On a clear night you can see Atlanta air traffic. The clouds looked like the ocean waves coming into shore."
Bob Smith, 02/21/05 "I love this shelter. It was new when I was a kid and first hiking the trail (30 years ago). But it is showing its age a bit. The water source is reliable, in my experience. The views are extraordinary, and there are lots of great places to pitch a tent if the shelter's full (or you don't want to use it). I give it high marks for the views and the feeling of height you get staying at this location. "
Jason, 01/20/03 "Awesome views from just a short distance away from the shelter. Depending on what time of year, you may not have a water supply near by."
, 01/14/04 "Another heavily used shelter that is showing some "wear and tear". Many good camping spots nearby with great views. The boxed spring has always been reliable for me. (including late summer) but the spring is at such a high alt. it may dry up if its been really dry."
JSH, 01/09/05 "Simple shelter. Got caught in a snow storm here 12/04 - 6" of snow. VERY windy - had to put tent up inside shelter. There was 1/2" of snow IN the shelter the next morning."
