"I have used a product called a SteriPEN. This filter system uses ultraviolet light to purify your drinking water quickly, safely and effectively. This product is ideal for anyone who camps/backpacks and/or travels abroad. It’s very easy to use - all you to do is stir the water gently with the SteriPEN for less than one minute and a 16 oz glass of water will be safe and ready to drink. Weighs less than 8 oz with four AA batteries. You cannot use this product on dirty/dis-colored water, but they sell filters for that as well. Overall, I found it very helpful and will continue to use it on other trips/adventures."

"Dudes, listen for me this is the best water purifying option bar none. I use the SteriPen, the optional particle filter, 1 .32 oz collapsible Nalgene canteen and a .96 oz collapsible Nalgene canteen. I make one trip to the water source using the 32 oz canteen to fill up the 96 oz canteen. The SteriPen is easy to use. The company and I recommend using lithium batteries. It kills just about everything that can harm you. It is a great conversation piece when talking to other hikers male or female. No one can resist the ultra-Violet rays. It’s on the expensive side, but for those of you tired of cleaning out your filters, tired of the pumping action. This is the system for you. I’ve had mine for two complete camping seasons and it hasn’t failed me yet."

"I love this thing! We bought it as a Christmas gift to ourselves! We do own an old Sweetwater Guardian, which is OK...but as a biologist I respect the UV aspect of the steripen. we do not have to worry about Giardia, salmonella, etc. as the UV rays break the DNA of anything in the water so that it cannot replicate. We did buy the $3.00 pre-filter for the Nalgene bottle. One the water is pre-filtered, the steripen fits right into the filter! I SOOOOO recommend this!"
