"The Jetboil coffee press is grossly overpriced (US$20)for a few pieces of metal and plastic, but it integrates so well with the Jetboil PCS that I had to buy it. In short: It works, but it's not perfect by a long shot.
The big problems are: 1) the plunger shaft is made of two rods that screw together, and they are black. If you drop one in the dark or on the forest floor, good luck finding it, 2) If you stow the plunger screen on top of the stove in the pot, the igniter will soon poke a hole in the screen. That happened to me on the first day I used it. $20 gone! 3) The included lid is identical to the pot lid, and isn't really necessary. I'd prefer that they drop the price significantly and leave out the extra lid."
"The Jetboil coffee press is the perfect accessory for the Jetboil PCS. I like to have good coffee on the trail and this system makes that convenient. The original Jetboil lid did not come with the center hole so getting a second lid was a necessity. I use the reverse plunger method so that clean up is minimal. PROS - I can make 2 cups of good coffee quickly. CONS - the accessory is a little pricey."
"Is the french press accessory for the JetBoil perfect? No probably not, but It's good, really good.
First of all the other reviewers are correct. It's expensive for what you get. The catch is that it's custom made for this application and that's gonna make it expensive. It does pack into the stove so nicely.
I also agree that the plunger shaft rods, especially separated have a great potential for getting dropped and lost. A bright color might make them easier to locate, but probably a -3 on the coolness factor. I myself haven't lost mine, YET. I've also had problem getting the rods to unscrew after using the press. With wet hands it's almost impossible. I've had to resort to using my multi-tool to break them loose a few times.
As for the filter basket not fitting in the top over the stove, I never put mine there. I put my filter basket on the bottom of the cup just below the fins and cover it with the plastic cup/cover. I don't know if the directions said to do it or it just made sense to me.
The last thing I will say is that the grounds are a pain to clean up. You use a lot of precious water cleaning up, even if you use the reverse basket method which helps a lot.
The only alternative is to use instant coffee and that is just not an alternative for me.
I would buy this again."
