Feathered Friends Lark Review

"This is a Lark w/Epic fabric and 800 down fill. Reg size fits me well w/just a little room at bottom to spare. I think 25 oz of down fill. I've slept in temps to mid 20's w/just a little shivering (it was by water, maybe a bit damp) Removeable draft collar is a great feature, with it my neck area is sealed shut or leave it at home during summer months. That helps save some weight. On a digital postal scale: 2 lbs 13 oz total. Construction is top-notch. Things like tuck stitching and hang loops, passable zipper stiffener. Epic fabric sheds water well, supposedly doesn't wear or wash out. Doesn't stuff particularly small and I could have chosen a lighter fabric, but I know I have a custom bag that will last a long, long time."

"Feathered Friends makes bags to order, so expect several weeks' lead time. My Lark was ordered by someone else and not paid for, so FF sold it in one of its rare bag sales. Mine is 7 feet (extra long - ordinary long is 6'6"), with overfill and removeable collar, with Epic fabric. The first mummy bag I've not felt cramped in, thanks to those extra six inches. Mine is rated to 5 degrees and even without the collar I have been toasty in the (damp) teens. It's hard to find a fault with an FF bag; they make great products with top-notch workmanship, for a premium price. The premium is justified, in my opinion, as I expect this bag to outlive me. I'm told that today other makers turn out comparably rated bags weighing much less, but I sleep cold and am willing to tote an extra pound or two to avoid shivering."
