"Forget your North Face, Dana, Osprey, Gregory or what ever
else you think is the best backpack. McHale has been making the
world's best for 20 years now. And if Scott Fischer had come
down off of Everest, he would tell you the same thing. Dan
McHale's backpacks are not made with the low tensile strength
6061-T6 aluminum stays that the others do, he uses the aluminum
that we here at Boeing make our aircraft from; 7075-T6. The
SARC is perfect for up to week long trips with a capacity of 3500
ci (4500 with snow collar extended). Each pack is custom made
to fit YOU by Dan so you won't have to go in to try to tweak it so
it will HOPEFULLLY fit right like other packs. You have the
choice of 400 packcloth, 1000 cordura or ballistics cloth for
construction. Everyone who I have gotten to try or buy one of
Dan's pack has said they would never go to a different pack ag!
ain. The alpineer series had the patented bypass yoke design and
bayonet system to decrease the actual capacity of the pack. My
Standard Alpineer is made with 400 PC and 1000 cordura and
has the main seams sewn with Spectra cloth (4 times the strength
of nylon thread used by all other packs) and can carry up to 125
lbs. The shoulder straps are capable of a 500 lb load. I personally
have tried a 75lb load in it and it was remarkably comfortable. It is
designed for up to 30 day expeditions and has a maximum
capacity of 5000 ci (6000 with SC extended) This rating is
extremely conservative as I can pack about 30% more than I
could in a large Dana Teraplane. Price for the best packs in the
world? $350 for the SARC and $525 for the Standard Alpineer.
Dan also has many other models all the way up to 8000 ci and he
is also a Western Mountaineering Dealer. Call (206) 281-7861 in
Seattle to get a free brochure packet. You will never regret buying
one."
