"I searched for a long time trying to find the best quality pack available. After much searching there seemed to be no significant difference in several of the "top brand names"....However of all the packs I tested the Jansport Rockies was significantly different in price and weight. At around $150 dollars it was about 1/2 the price of other similar quality packs. It was also a bit lighter which is always a plus. I also like the pocket configuration giving you alot of options. Only drawback was a nondetachable top. But I've had no desperate need for one yet. And I've even seen this pack on sale as low as $100. Untouchable price for this quality of pack. Also Jansports warranty is for the life of the original owner...hard to beat!"

"I bought this pack after careful consideration, lots of shopping, and the great review given by Backpacker magazine. It is the IDEAL pack for hikers. It is lighter than nearly any of the other packs comparable in capacity, just as comfy as my Gregory (well…. almost,) and handles heavy loads well. I would take it on any hiking trip any time. So you say; “if it is so good, then why do you need a Gregory?” The answer; mountaineering my friend. I use the Jansport for much of my hiking, and the Gregory for mountaineering, and climbing trips. I think that each pack is best suited for the purposes I just stated, but advise is only worth what you pay for it, and this is free."

"I purchased this backpack new (the model 100 Tall version) based on numerous very positive reviews found at various backpacking web sites. I used it on a 70 mile 11 day hike in northeast NM with the Boy Scouts. I loved it, and I then purchased 2 more of the same packs on Ebay for 1/2 price, for my sons. Lots of room, nicely organized and thoughtfully designed, comfortable. You can't go wrong with this pack."

"I have owned a Tall version of this pack for 5 years and well over 1600 miles of use. It is light, relatively tough (I have had to make some minor repairs) since the fabric/stitching has released or worn through in two stress areas. I added some daisey chains in 2000 for straping in my pad and rain stuff. The best feature in my opinion is the quick and multi position ladder suspension system. I paid about $100 for this pack from REI. I can not believe there is an all around better pack for comfort, weight, fit, and volume. I have it loaned to a scout that is making his first Philmont trip this year. I will take my Dana Terraframe which is my second favorite pack."

"I purchased this pack in 2002 for around $150. It is lightweight and 1/2 the price of similar sized models. The lifetime gurarantee is another plus. The only drawback is the capacity...you tend to try to fill it up because there is more room (6200 cu in)which can make for a very heavy pack. I have put around 200 miles on it in the last 3 years and have had no problems with anything breaking, wearing or tearing on this pack. It is comfortable even heavy. It has multiple adjustments as well as being designed for taller/longer torso's. I am planning on a 10 day 50 miler in NM with the Boy Scouts this year and did a 6 day 50 miler in the 7 devils of Idaho last year...I wish my body would wear like this pack!"
