A popular gentle trail in Mt. Rainier National Park's White River entrance leads to campsites set amid flowers and views of Mt Rainier and Little Tahoma. The trailhead starts at Fryingpan Creek bridge about 3 miles in from the White River entrance. The trail gains elevation very gradually following up the Fryingpan Creek valley. At about two miles, the deep cool forest of big trees begins to open in places to views of the cliffs and waterfalls high above the valley floor. Wildflowers, blueberies, and salmonberries begin to line the trail as valley clears and crosses the creek on a log at 3 miles in. A loud waterfall is just a few feet downstream of the bridge but a good view is not attainable. The trail continues another quarter mile through lupine, aster, and other wildflowers before beginning the final half mile switchbacking up through a forested hillside. You finally break out of the trees after 4 miles to find the campsites of Summerland. There is a group site in a shelter and anout 5 more establishes campsites marked along the path. There is also a modern composting toilet located in the campgrounds. There is water available about 50 yards from the campsites, as well as at several streams which are crossed along the four mile trail. The four miles of super-smooth trail gains the 2000 feet of elevation so gradually that there is practically no stress which means no tired leg muscles the next day.
