Beginner's hike, 2,600 ft elevation. Starts out along an old access road, past beaver ponds, then narrows to a trail to climb through a hardwood forest to the rock foundation and chimney of an old ranger's cabin. This is a good rest stop with views of Elmore lake and the surrounding green mountains and farmland. Continue the climb - some scrambling will be required at spots - to the summit. Not much in views here, unless you climb the firetower. Side trail to a precariously balanced boulder. Park has ample parking, a lodge, campsite, facilities.. and a swim in Elmore lake will be warranted to cool down and clean off afterwards!
