The trail makes a great day hike to the summit of Mt Ascutney from the north side of the mountain. It begins with a steep ascent to an old quarry road and follows the old road bed for approximately 1 mile to an old (green) granite quarry dating back to the early 1900s. After another steep ascent around the quarry, there is a nice lookout at the top at about 1.2 miles. The trail then ascends steadily through a scenic spruce forest to Knee Lookout (2.0 miles), the North Peak Lookout (2.4 miles), Brownsville Rock (3.0 miles) and the summit observation tower (3.2 miles) where there are scenic views of the Connecticut River Valley and the mountains of New Hampshire and Vermont.
