You start out in the little town of Catawba on the AT. The AT crosses state route 311 were the Dragon's Tooth trail actualy begins. From there head south on the AT and it's a good 8 miles to your final destination. In the process you will cross over Secondary State route 785 and 624. Once you cross 624 its a quick 2 miles up to Dragon's Tooth. The eight miles in seem to disappear once Dragon's Tooth comes into view. Three rock formations of 30 feet or more await to be climbed and offer a great final resting spot or a half way point to reload and head back out. The section from state route 624 to Dragon;s Tooth has open rock face sections which offer tremendous views into the Jefferson National Forest country side. If you look hard enough you may even be able to see Roanoke. A great day hike or backpacking trip. One of the better spots in Virginia, personally.
