Not simply a hike, but an adventure...1 mile to the summit, 1 mile back down. I didn\'t see the 360 view, simply because I\'m too clumsy to go far out on the rocks, however the view I saw was still breathtaking and well worth the climb. Also, throughout the hike, you can choose the steeper or easier path, depending on your level, which is neat. I highly recommend starting at the visitor\'s center and taking in the Mountain Farm Exhibit on your way to the trailhead. It adds about 1/2 mile to your total trip and features charming 19th century farm buildings (including a cabin made of chestnut wood). In the summer, on weekends, supernice rangers in costume demonstrate cooking, crafts, and more, the buildings are open, and there are even sometimes musicians entertaining under a walnut tree on a tiny rustic stage. All of that, air-conditioned bathrooms, a neat little bookshop, and a super summit view give this hike a 5 in my book! The following website shows you the cabin under the heading \"Appalachian Culture.\" The craggy peak in the background is your destination on this trail: http://www.virginia.org/site/features.asp?FeatureID=183 More info: http://www.nps.gov/archive/blri/humpback.htm I went on a friday, in the daytime, and only saw one other couple on the trail. HERE\'S A TIP: In late May-June, the pink mountain laurels are spectacular. ANOTHER TIP: It\'s not in Shenandoah National Park, so you don\'t pay the park entrance fee.
