Description
The hike starts out at the bells canyon trail head. You pass the lower bells canyon reservoir then the trail becomes steep and rocky. If your not inshape this trail will hurt. You go up the rocky steep trail past the first waterfall then to the second waterfall at the second water fall cross the stream at a makeshift bridge to the other side of the trail head the trail is much easier over there. The rest of the hike up to upper bells canyon isnt to hard if you stay to the LEFT side of the canyon walls if you find yourself climbing over gigantic slickrock your too far to the right (there are about four diffrent trails you can take the one to the VERY FAR LEFT is the easiest. From the lower reservoir to the Upper reservoir is about 6 hours. Beware when you get to the upper reservoir the bugs are horrible not as bad in the morn/afternoon but evening is horrible (im talking swarms so Bring GOOD bugspray) not stuff that smells good because it dosent work trust me. from upper bells stay to the right of the resivuar and follow the carnes they will lead you into the cirque. This is where we camped. It is a rocky wasteland there so be prepaired to do some scrambling. Right before the cirque there is a stream bed that is dried up in a few spots fill up your water packs here it will be the last spot untill coming down from the summit. Once we entered the cirque we couldnt find the path up to lone peak so we ended up summiting a smaller peak. So good luck if anyone can help me with directions to how to get up email Josephornberg@msn.com. Overall this was a good trail keep in mind to leave early in the morning it is a long hike. We didnt have any maps and it took us 12 hours to reach the cirque. I could probably do it alot quicker now that I know the way but oh well. There is plenty of water up bells canyon your following a stream the whole way. Hopefully this review has been helpfull I had no idea what to expect from this trail going into it there isnt much info on the net and some of the books i had were misleading. I took about every wrong turn possible on this trail so hopefully this has been helpfull so you dont do the same. Ps this is a congressionally designated wilderness area witch means the whole trip up except on the waterfall you will have almost complete solitude the entire way. That also means the trails will be hard to follow. But if your looking to get away from everything this is the place.

Directions to Hike
Drive near the little cottonwood canyon enterance.
jump on wascath blvd get off on 9400 and drive into the canyon so to say you will see parking spaces off to the right of you go there and park. The trailhead is marked something like Sandy City Trail. Get out take the switchbacks up once the trail intersects with the service road stay on the service road untill you see the bells canyon Trailhead to your right. IF you go the otherway you will have wasted about another hour (trust me)
