An addendum to Craig Noland's description of Ramsey's Cascades. Roughly 3/5ths of the way up, the trail winds through a spectacular grove of "Old Growth" Poplar (trees). Located deep in the Old Growth Forest, (The Great Smokey Mountains National Park has the largest contiguous Old Growth forest east of the Rocky Mountains) look for the Grizzly Giant on the left side of the trail going up. Please do not hack any more of the bark away from the trunk than has already been removed by the tourists. The mountainside along the Ramsey's Cascades trail is populated with a generous portion of giant Poplars and Hemlocks, some of the largest living organisms on the face of the planet.
