A moderate trail that takes you to Tennessee's highest point. The Appalachian Trail is your pathway to the summit and is a quite run down from all of the years of travel. The foot bridges are decaying slowly and the acid rain seems to be having its affects on the higher elevation areas. For the most part it is a decent trail with a tremendous observation deck that allows you to see 360 degrees into the Great Smoky Mountains and give you glimpses of the surrounding Mountains such as Cataloochee and even its rival, Mt Mitchell to the East. On a clear day you should even be able to catch a glimpse of the little town of Galtinburg. This is a great little ridge trail that doesn't present many challenges, but a great view at the end.
