Description
The first part of the hike goes 1.5 miles up an old logging road. It follows along the Middle Prong of the Little Pigeon River. Along the way are many wonderful views of the Middle Prong, boulders, and wildlife. At the end of the logging road is an old traffic circle. From here, the trail becomes much smaller with switch-backs and several foot-logs. From here, there will be alot of different vegitation. Anything from wildflowers and mushrooms to Ramps ( an East Tennessee version of a wild garlic.). At 2.5 miles, from the traffic circle, you will reach your destination. Ramsay Cascades, is a series of ledges with water falling from about 100'. Although it is a wonderful place for a picnic and relaxation, It is a good place to get yourself killed. There have been many fatalities by people that didn't pay attention to the warning sign. DON'T CLIMB ON THE FALLS !!! This trail, at times , is heavily used. I perfer to hike it early in the morning, hang around the falls, and check out the many swimming holes on the way down ( when It's warm enough, of course ). During the warm months, there are good possibilities of running across a Bear or two. Give them room. This is there home and there home is not a petting zoo. DON'T FEED THE BEARS !!! This trail is also a great winter hike. Be sure to find out if the road from the highway to the trailhead has not been closed due to snow or ice. As always, Be prepared. Conditions in the Smokies change quickly and drastically. Happy hiking.

Directions to Hike
Drive approximately 6 miles east of Gatlinburg to the Greenbrier Road entrance on the right. Turn right and use caution, as this can be a very narrow road in places. At 3.2 miles, turn left across the bridge and go another 1.5 miles to the trailhead. Don,t leave any valuables in plain view in your car. Lock everything up or leave them at home. ( PS Greenbrier Road has great places to swim, sun bath, and picnic. There are also many other trailheads and trail intersections along the road.
