Mid-June: started from town of Cross Fork, elv. 1056, headed NW on Twin Sisters trail of Susquehannock Trail System (STS). Camped first night at mile 52.5, elv. 1900. Very limited water available here. Next day descended into Hammersley Fork valley, then south along Hammersley, camped at intersect of Cow Run. Nice site, great brook trout fishing. From site 2, day hiked to Beech Bottom virgin hemlock area. Scenic hike, steep, 1000 ft. ascent, but good trail. Day 3: camped on island in Hammersley Fork near intersect with Nelson Branch. Until this point on trip had not seen any other people, but encountered other backpackers and day hikers heading north along Hammersley from Kettle Creek area. Heard from other backpackers that heading north on STS, miles 54-60 were very nice with lots of great campsites. Experienced overnight lows in the mid-40's, daytime highs in low 80's. I bought the Guide to Susquehannock Trail System from Pine Creek Outfitters - www.pinecrk.com - the guide was very useful, with decent waterproof maps.
