The Perimeter Trail passes through very diverse terrain. Forests, wild fields, old un-used roads, and marsh lands can be found along the trail. There are also several stream crossings. Sounds nice, but this is not a very enjoyable hike. Since the trail is also an equestrian trail, you are almost constantly walking through muddy, swampy, mosquito-filled horse tracks. And if the trail isn't swampy, it's probably overgrown with thorns. Wear long pants! I learned the hard way! Also, it is very poorly blazed so be sure to take a topo map of the area. I didn't, and had to turn back after only one day of hiking due to the fact that I completely lost the trail. They put the blazes everywhere but the places where you would need one. If you enjoy being challenged by poor trail conditions, then try this trail out. Otherwise, spend your time on a more hiker-friendly and less horse-friendly trail.
