Northern Section of Shawnee. I agree that they did not put in switchbacks on the trail. When you go up, it is straight up. Trail marked fairly well but one map is outdated as it shows crossing a road and you don't. Two sets of marks to follow but if you look at the map you see what is going on but have to pay attention. You don't get far if you follow wrong set; just waste time. When you have chance to fill up water at the faucets, use them. Make sure to bring filter as where you want to stop probably not near water. Camp two has an old outhouse but I am not sure it is worth the trip back to it. If I had to do it again I would stay on trail and stop up by the water which is beyond camp 2. A pretty good place there. We ran out of time and when we got to camp 3 we went to the road and took it back to trailhead. Hear that the south trail is less up/down and intend to go back this year and finish the south loop. I would agree that not particularly scenic in summer but certainly good workout for other trips.
