The trail is located in Shawnee State Forest, the largest state forest in Ohio. The forest is known as "The Little Smokies." The trail is rugged and hilly and is sometimes heavily covered in vegetation. I found the trail to be rustic and seldom did I see any other people in four days of hiking. There are 8 campsites and all but one has a water pump nearby. The camps are located in beautiful hollows and have fire rings if needed. The elevation changes are from 700 to 1200 feet and there are many, many ups and downs. Views of nearby ridges and hollows are plentiful and beautiful. There is a side trail through a state wilderness area that is very nearly bushwacking. Blazes were hard to find and I relied on a compass and map sometimes. It was challenging but fun. I highly recommend this hike. Contour maps are available at the resgistration site and there is no fee.
