Hiked the north loop this past July over the weekend (Fri - Sun). From the trailhead to Camp 1 is the most challenging section because of multiple steep climbs and descents. Camp 1 to Camp 2 is mostly along the ridge, so not too bad. Camp 2 to Camp 3 crosses several roads and goes near Camp Oyo (a Boy Scout camp). The North Loop is a challenging hike to complete over the weekend. We hiked from the trailhead to camp 1 on Friday. On Saturday we hiked from camp 1 to camp 3 (skipping camp 2). On Sunday, we hiked from camp 3 back to the trailhead. The water tanks are located about a mile from the camps. For camp 1, it's best to fill up before making camp than have to backtrack later. The water for camp 2 is actually further down the trail. This requires hiking past camp 2, down the steep, narrow trail to the bottom of the hill then hiking back up to the camp. There weren't many "picture-perfect" sections of the north loop, except pehaps between camp 1 and 2 when you're hiking along the ridge opposite the firetower.
