Adirondack High Peaks Region. Beautiful forested hike suited for a hot summer day, with lots of connecting options. Start out by passing a roaring waterfall, the follows the stream for a while... through the woods, along what appears to be a rocky stream bed for a while, then after an hour or so, skirting the "washbowl" (tentsites here!) in a pine forest. The climb starts up the back side of the "nubble" of Giant mountain. There are several broad, exposed rock ledges to rest (with berry picking in season),looking down on the lake and peaks such as Noonmark and Round Mtn. directly south. Then on to the nubble - really a very small side peak of Giant, at about 3,000 ft. 360 views of Giant to the north, and surrounding high peaks. Can extend the length of hike by going to Giant and beyond (4600 ft), or head back down a steep grade in a pine forest to loop back to Roaring Brook. Chapel Pond is just up the road for a swim when you're done.
