This twelve-mile hike to a lovely warm springs can be done as a day hike or, more popularly, as a two- or three-day backpack. Begin your hike at TJ Corral, hiking up and over a wide mesa before dropping into Little Bear Canyon. At the junction of Little Bear Canyon and the Middle Fork of the Gila River, turn to the left and cross the river fifteen times (be sure you count!) to get to the springs. There are several well-used campsites in the vicinity of the springs. You may have to cross the river a 16th time to find a campsite. Set up camp, make dinner, then retire to the hot springs for a long evening soak before crawling into your tent. The next day, perhaps you might wander up the canyon to take in the spectacular views and to have lunch in a very secluded side canyon before heading back to camp. Of course, your evening is already planned with a return visit to the hot springs. Hike out on the third day.
