Description
Several interconnected small canyons form the drainage basin for three pretty good-sized creeks. Easy hiking in and around this basin. You can't get lost; just follow the water out. Aspens, granite cliffs, plenty of water. Bring your filter, there will be cows unless you go very early in the spring or very late in the fall. If you're luck you might hear the Cumbres & Toltec Narrow Gauge train's steam whistle.

Directions to Hike
From Tres Piedras (55 miles north of Espanola), continue north on US Highway 285 about 11 miles to Forest Road 87 and turn left. Forest Road 87 is gravel and dirt. road. Don't go when it's wet; sections of the road can be impassable for days following heavy rains. Follow Forest Road 87, passing Forest Road 87A at 21 miles. A mile beyond Forest Road 87A, turn right onto Forest Road 572. These are rough roads, but drive slow and you'll make it the two miles to the trailhead.
