the Trail starts from the visitors center and is well worn up into the bowl of the ravine. There you come to the Hermit lake shelter where you can refill water and purchase items inside that cannot be purchased at any of the other visitor centers along with essential gear. From there the trail becomes steeper as it acends the wall of the ravine. In August when I went there was still three good size patches of snow on the ground. The trail is steep as it climbs the wall of the ravine. When reaching the top of the ravine it is very rocky but not that difficult of terrain. The winds pick up but on a clear day the view is awesome. a few miles ahead is the summit of Mount Washington. The climb to the summit seems long after all you've bben throught already btu it is worth it. From the top (on a clear day) you can see pretty much any where you want. In the observitory they serve hot food and cooled drinks. The hike is long and strenuous, but reaching both the headwall of the ravine and the summit gives you a feeling like no other.
