Going to the summit of Mt. Chicora was a great moderate type day trip under excellent conditions yesterday. Temperatures were in the high 30\'s to low forties and the trail was well protected. Once near the summit (.6 miles) the wind picked up and the temperature dropped. While the day was a bit overcast, the visibility from the top of the mountain was very good. It was an excellent hike--a splendid walk on the next to the last day of the year. You can stop at Champney falls on the way up and observe ice climbers as well. I would estimate 3.5 to 4 hours to get to the top.
