Description
Rockjock begins as a turn off Conley Cove trail and follows the cliffs of the Goldcoast wall south about 7 long long miles to the intersection of Dobson Knob Road and Kistler (FSR1238). Much of this trail is now obscure due to tree fall from fire and pineborer infestation. The trail when it was at its best is narrow. It hugs the cliffs and skirts around 8 canyons. 23 side trails lead out to outcrops and views which are like jewels on a string. The cliffs are about 300-450 ft high and overlook the Linville river about 1000 ft below. The side trails lead to caves, waterfalls, unusual rock formations and campsites. Only the north 3/4 mile is backpackable. It is a rough trail, yet stays fairly level ( on contour ),best to dayhike. In its current condition you could not get thru the whole thing in a day.

Directions to Hike
At intrsection of 221 and 183 which is the village of "Linville falls" proceed east on 183 one mile straight ahead into the dirt road called Kistler memorial Highway aka FSR 1238, aka 'old NC 105'. Yeah, 3 names. Follow kistler about 1.5mi south of Wisemans view and park at Conley Cove trailhead ( nicely marked - gravel lot, fence, sign ). Walk down CC about 800ft look for trail on right going slighty uphill. Follow this past a camp/clearing and take left at intersection. You cross a small stream and head uphill. Yer on it. GOOD LUCK! Oh yeah, if you go past that last intersection , you come back on to the road.
