This is a good trail for beginners; the hike is moderate for the most part. The trail is quite strenuous, however where it climbs Dennis Mountain (near the southern trailhead) and where it climbs Dark Mountain (near the northern trailhead). There are two primitive campgrounds linked to the Uwharrie Trail by short spurs: West Morris Mountain Camp (northern part) and Yates Place Camp (southern part). The campgrounds have pit toilets, fire rings, and picnic tables. The trail has some outstanding views in the winter (when the trees are bare), but beware of deer hunters.
