It's only two and a half miles, but it's all up-hill at a pretty good incline. You gain 2,400 feet over those two and a half miles so leave some time to hike it. Incredible views from the top of the entire Beaverhead Valley area. You can see all the way to the Bitterroot Mountains. The first part of the climb is off-trail. The trail starts at the treeline and cuts through rock (so you don't have to scramble to the peak). Stay on the trail because there are some false peaks. If you decide to off-trail-it and scramble up the side you will be heading in the wrong direction. Besides, the rocks are pretty unstable. There's wind shelter at the top. You can see the all the Pioneer peaks (Torrey, Tweedy, Sawtooth), it's beautiful and very do-able as a day hike (though it can get hard if you're not used to steep climbs at a high altitude).
