A Gorgeous hike to be done in July or August. My wife and I tried it this weekend and about 7800 feet up found 6-10 inches of snow still on the ground! Anyway, The first 4 or so miles you climb from 6000 feet (at Crystal Lake) to approx 8200 to the top of the Snowy Mountains. The trail leads past two cave entrances, and continues around to the south and east and loops back to Crystal Lake. It can be done in a day but it would be a LONG day with the climb and such. There are also numerous little "side trails" that take you to various peaks along the way. I highly recommend that you take these (especially Promitory Peak and Grandview Peak)
