The Belly River Valley in Glacier and Waterton National Parks is wild and unspoiled territory, not heavily traveled even in high summer. From the trailhead you can hike 2-3 miles to the river to fish, 6 miles to the Ranger Station, about 10 miles to a beautiful series of lakes, or connect to another trail to hike to the foot of Waterton Lake, with spectacular mountains in the background throughout. There are some moderate ascents to the lakes but overall nothing backbreaking. Remember that camping in the backcountry is limited to prescribed areas and requires a permit. This is grizzly country so take the usual precautions; some of the campsites have bear poles for hanging your pack.
