This is a system of loop trails that can be hiked in 2, 3, and 5 mile increments. It starts at the Arkabutal dam spillway area and continues along an old road the follows a small stream, It then passes through some swampland featuring HUGE cypress trees. In this portion of the hike you can see wodpeckers, deer, turtles, snakes, and beaver. There are several beaver dams along the stream. It then crosses the stream and follows it back between the stream and a highway. Then it crosses the highway and enters a pine plantion area. It is in this portion of the hike that you leave the bottomlands and climb up a small ridge. Deer are seen in this area often. At the midway point of the hike (5 mile) you come to an area that is being "consumed" by kudzoo, a rapidly growing vine that is not native to MS or the USA. The kudzoo growing on the pines creates an alien landscape. The trail then passes through the remains of the camp that was set up to build the nearby Arkabutla Dam. There is not much here except for a big vault that was used to store the payroll for the dam workers. The trail then drops back down to the bottomland, crosses the highway, and re-enters the swampy area. It then passes a large beaver pond before ending back at the spillway area.
