The Rockywood Trail is located in the Washington State Park, just south of St Louis. It is a wilderness trail reported to be a 10 mile loop. However, my pedometer measured it at more like 8 miles and based on the time it took to cover the mileage, I'm inclined to go with 8 over 10. The trail starts behind the restaurant. You will think you are going into the backdoor of the building but you are actually on the trail. You will arrive at an overlook fairly soon after beginning the hike...don't fall off. Once passing the overlook, you will come to a Y in the trail. If you look at the map, you'll be inclined to go right...don't, lest you waste 10 to 15 minutes with a dead-end trail. Take the left branch and you'll be on the trail. There is one backpacking camp area that groups of 7 or more must use. It is near the only reliable water source, so although you may camp anywhere along the trail (100 ft off), don't expect any water sources except for the one near the group site. Overall, it's a beautiful hike!
