This wilderness footpath follows the North Shore of Lake Superior from Two Harbors, MN to the Canadian Border. Our group thru-hiked it in 18 days. The SHT provides the hiker with varied terrain (from very easy to extremely difficult), forests, wildlife, and wildflowers. Hikers will be amazed at the scenic overlooks as they wind their way through the Sawtooth Mountains and see Lake Superior to the southeast and lakes and wilderness to the northwest. This area has some of the most impressive scenery I've ever seen. We did short hikes in May to prepare and experienced beautiful wildflowers. On our thru-hike we had thick, lush vegetation, and am looking forward to experiencing the wonderful colors this fall and some snow hiking this winter. The trail is well-maintained by the Superior Hiking Trail Association (SHTA) with wonderful campsites, usually on rivers or streams, averaging every 6 to 8 miles. The trail passes through seven Minnesota State Parks, complete with running water and showers. The trail is very well marked even in the most remote areas, so you always know where you are. Also SHTA has very good maps and a guidebook to help you make the most of your hike. SHT is easily accessible to Highway 61 with parking available at trailheads all along the way, so you can thru-hike, day-hike, do sections at a time, or set up a lodge to lodge hike (you hike during the day and lodge personnel move your gear to the next beautiful resort!) A shuttle runs all summer that will meet you at trailheads and shuttle you back to your car, to a nearby town for supplies, or for food drops. We also used the state parks for our food drops
