The Minong Ridge runs along the north edge of Isle Royale. It is the most remote and rugged trail on a remote and rugged, and very beautiful, island. The western portion is the toughest stretch on the island. Traversing the trail involves crossing an enormous beaver dam (c. 80-100 meters) directly on the dam itself (you will get your feet wet!) and some very tricky swamp sections stepping on bobbing and floating logs (the trail is barely maintained). The center section along the ridges will have you burning a huge amount of energy per mile of hiking. The views are not as nice as on the Greenstone but the challenge is its' own reward and it is still well worth it if you have hiked the Greenstone ridge already.
