So much scenery, so few words...following the east bank of the Manistee River through hardwood and pine forests with views of the river valley (spectacular colors in autumn),creek crossings, boardwalks across wetlands, a small but loud waterfall, steep hills, and two unique bridges: an arch timber bridge crossing Slagle Creek and a suspension bridge over the Manistee River linking the north end of the trail with the Marilla segment of the North Country Trail on the west side of the river. This makes a weekend loop of about 26 miles possible with the southern link crossing the river at Red Bridge and many options for dayhikes or an overnighter. Fishing and canoeing are popular activities on the Manistee. The U.S. Forest Seaton Creek Campground Trailhead has parking, camping with a hand pump and outhouses available and a picnic area. Camping is allowed along the trails. Spring and fall are great times to relax here; snowshoes and skis can get you here in winter to enjoy the water wonderland. The trail can be accessed from the Seaton Creek Campground, the Red Bridge river access area, or the Marilla Road North Country Trail Trailhead (to the suspension bridge).
