Actually, this hike is a series of interconnected trails that span over three parks: Catoctin State park, Cunnignham Falls, and Gambrill State Park. All seperate, but interconnected through a myriad of trails. The hike itself is a challenging day hike for a novice and a good skill refresher for the experienced. Staring at the Visitor's Center, you may hike one of several trails trails that will lead you to some beautiful views. Many of the better views will have boulders to climb for those who are experienced free climbers (beware of the large crevases) Many of the trails that I hiked were a mixture of loose rocks, tight switchbacks and smooth flat trails interspersed with swift moving creeks. The trails I hiked did not exceed 1400ft and very quite managable on a leisurely afternoon. Or, if you're ambitious, you would be able to hike a good part of all three parks in one - two days.
