This trail ascends the cliff line for almost half the trail. Rail guards and stairs make this trail a little easier. There will be points to go out on rocks and get a beautiful view of the Falls. About 0.5 miles from the trailhead there’s an historic shelter that you reach by climbing about 60 steps upwards. The view is only worth it in the fall and winter times. From this point you’ll continue downward on switchbacks to the Cumberland River. You’ll cross a tiny stream and have the option to go left or right. Taking a right will take you on a mile-long loop, which will connect back to the Eagle Falls Trail. This loop will ascend above the hemlocks and then descend sharply. It will follow a little creek, which is the source of water for the Eagle Falls. It is quite beautiful here. You can go off the designated trail to look over and see the water falling over the cliff, but be careful. A man died earlier this year from the fall. From here, you’ll wind back up and connect with the mail trail, only to ascend back down to the river shore. Once you get to the beach, the trail is no longer apparent. Simply climb the rocks downstream to the Falls. It is not advised to go out here in the springtime since flooding will not allow you go see the Falls.
