Turkey Run state park is known for it's beautiful rugged canyon trails, as well as it's peaceful "walk through the woods" trails, all of which can be looped together into one fantastic day hike. Trail 2 starts after a short walk down the creekside Trail 1. Though I have never seen one myself, I'm told that this is a good area for birders to spot Pileated Woodpeckers. Walking uphill on the Trail 2 trailhead takes you through a beautiful green-covered canyon area. This is a fantastic spot to sit and soak in the beauty Turkey Run has to offer. In the fall this area is aflame with oranges and reds, it is quite amazing. Cliff swallows can be seen sweeping past as you walk along the exposed sandstone cliffs. This trail boasts some beautiful sandstone features, amazingly formed cliffs and canyons, and even a few steps carved from stone! The best time to go is after a rain, when the waterfall in Gypsy Gulch is running. Be very careful here, the trail is a little rugged and dangerous when the stones are wet. The trail follows behind the waterfall and leads up to an intersection with Trail 1 where you go on to the Lusk Earth Fill. You hike back down onto Trail 1 and come out at The Narrows, a beautiful spot in the creek complete with a beautiful covered bridge. To return, you hike back down trail 1 or you can cross the creek and take Trail 4 back to the suspension bridge.
