Preparation Canyon State Park
Primitive camp sites deep in rural wooded agricultural area in remote Western Iowa. I've camped there twice (October and this past July 4th weekend) and pretty much had the place to myself. 8 hike-in campsites with enough dead wood/downed trees for camp fires. You must cut your own wood so carry along a sharp ax or hatchet. Bring your own water because there is no fresh water source available. I would give this place a 5-star rating if it had a well or some fresh water source. If hiking in the summer, make sure to bring along the mosquito dope. They were pretty fierce during the late afternoon in July, but dissipated remarkably after dark. For more information: http://www.iowadnr.com/parks/state_park_list/preparation_canyon.html
