A wonderful overnighter-type backpacking trail provides a great introduction to the Waianae Mountain wilderness. Views of colorful Makua Valley, an ancient Hawaiian habitat for the first Polynesian settlers of Oahu, are constant. The trail is graded along the ridgeline and proceeds in and out stretches of pine forest. The final destination can either be the campsite along Mokuleia Trail (wonderful sunset vistas) or Peacock Flats (peaceful, swaying forest campsite).
