From 7/23/03 through 7/27/03 I hiked the Bartram Trail in a loop starting at the West Fork NFS campground and heading south on hwy 28 to the Russell Bridge Trail Head. The trail was well marked and well maintained. I had a copy of the Bartram Trail guide by J.Ray and M.Skove. It was invaluable and I strongly recommend this guide. There is an abundance of water on this trail. The numerous creeks, streams, and waterfalls added much to the beauty of the hike. Of course the Chattooga River itself was beautiful. Rabun's Bald and Pinnacle Knob provided fantastic mountain peak scenery. I found the trail to be a bit difficult here and there. But then, I am a Floridian. It was a beautiful hike nonetheless - well worth the physical effort involved.
